Today was more than just a class on how to cook good food. It was a lesson in nutrition as it relates to health complications, mental wellness, and best practices to heal! Some of the complications we discussed were related to those with high blood sugar, low blood pressure, and diabetes.
In addition to open discussion of health from those that came to the class, a variety of meals were served:
- Almond milk (Leche de almendras)
- Vegan Mac and Cheese (Veganos de macarrones con Que Eso ohdip)
- Spiced coconut poached fish (Pescado escalfado con coco especiado)
Recipes, drinks, and a variety of snack platters were served with the meals. Ingredients needed to cook some recipes were also provided!
As Chef Ili cooked, volunteers were able to explain the methodology for growing each ingredient, and how chemicals can influence the way a specific type of produce is grown. This was one of our most insightful cooking demonstrations yet, and we are really excited to see you join our future Bronx community events!
