This corner is about carrying forward her legacy. It’s where we honor a remarkable woman by continuing the work that fueled her heart.

For over 13 years, Millie was the vibrant heartbeat of Manna of Life. She served as our dedicated treasurer, a passionate volunteer, a compassionate advocate, and a faithful prayer warrior. But more than any title, she was our friend and the living example of what it means to serve with joy.

The Magic of Millie’s Hands

Millie believed love was an action verb. She transformed her skill with a crochet hook into a ministry of warmth, creating thousands of blankets, hats, and scarves for neighbors facing hardship. As the administrator of Bev’s Charity Crafting Neighborhood, she connected generous crafters from around the world with local needs right here in the Bronx. Her living room was a bustling hub of hope, stacked with donations ready to find their perfect home.

Her secret? She listened — and then she acted. A child needed sneakers? A family lacked blankets? Millie would arrive, often the very same day, with exactly what was needed. Over the years, her quiet dedication resulted in over 67,000 gifts of warmth, dignity, and love.

Bev’s Charity continues sending their crafted packages to us, and we distribute them with the same love Millie always showed. Millie’s husband, Hector Hernandez, continues volunteering with us whenever possible, keeping Millie’s generous spirit alive.
