Bronx, New York – November 20, 2024 – As the holidays approach, Manna of Life Ministries, a faith-based nonprofit serving people experiencing homelessness and those in need, announces its annual Adopt a Family Campaign to address the critical needs of families in the community.

On Tuesday, November 19, and Friday, November 22, Manna will host a special event series to give away turkeys to Adopt a Family Campaign winners, ensuring hundreds of families can celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity and hope.

“The holidays are a time of togetherness and gratitude,” says Gladys Roman, Vice President of Manna of Life Ministries. “But for thousands in our community, it’s a season marked by scarcity. This campaign is our way of bringing light and hope to those who need it most.”

Manna’s Mission and Impact

Manna of Life Ministries is dedicated to meeting immediate hunger needs while empowering individuals to break free from the cycle of poverty. The organization’s impact is profound, with weekly food distribution exceeding 20,000 pounds, offering sustenance and support to families in the Bronx.

President Erbin Cobian reflects on the organization’s journey: “Twenty-nine years ago, 38 turkey dinners ignited a movement of hope. Manna of Life has grown from those humble beginnings to serve nearly 123,000 Bronx neighbors annually. We embrace 500 families through our Adopt a Family Campaign this holiday season – a testament to how far we’ve come from those first few meals. Our journey proves that nurtured compassion can transform entire communities.”

The Adopt a Family Campaign aims to “adopt” 500 families this Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Each adopted family will receive holiday meals, including a turkey for Thanksgiving, bringing warmth and nourishment during these critical months.

A Call to Action

Manna’s ability to meet the growing need relies on the generosity of individuals and organizations. Rising operational costs, reduced government food donations, and increased demand present significant challenges. Yet, the team at Manna remains steadfast in their mission.

How You Can Make an Immediate Impact:

• $80 provides a holiday meal for a family of four
• $150 feeds a family for a week
• $200 adopts a family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas

Manna Of Life Ministries, Inc. is a nonprofit faith-based organization dedicated to serving the homeless and destitute. Our goal is to address their immediate hunger needs and ultimately, to empower them to reverse their current situation. Manna of Life Ministries has been serving, feeding, and clothing Bronxites for over 28 years. The money raised goes to funding all our community programs: Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen, Outreach Services, Community Garden, Holiday Toy Drive, Senior Citizen Food Program, Home-bound Food Program and Mobile Thanksgiving Outreach.

This year Manna served approximately 18,000 families providing food for over 57,000 individuals in the South Bronx. Additionally, we provided numerous meals through our soup kitchen to the needy. As you have probably heard on the news, we in the South Bronx have had an influx of asylum seekers, increasing our monthly average of families assisted from 1,500 a month, served last year, to over 2,600 families served a month this year. That’s a 58% increase every month.
