This Mother’s Day was truly blessed. More than 150 adults and 50 kids visited Manna of Life Ministries to learn FDNY fire safety procedures, learn from speakers, and celebrate motherhood. Not only did the Firefighters for Christ (@ffc_nyc) and Glory Girls for Jesus (@glorygirlsforjesus) come to teach and talk, but Pastor Jasmine Davila (@jdavila1503) provided a specially moving sermon, Worship Leader Sonia Iglesias skillfully lead worship to magnify our experience, and God gave our Garden of Hope rain! Inside the church, children were able to enjoy face painting, Mimi the Clown, balloon sculpting, temporary tattoos, and toy giveaways, ice cream, juice, soda, water, coffee, and of course, snacks like chocolate-covered strawberries.
Here is a small bit of what children and adults were able to learn from the Firefighters for Christ:
- Standard protocol for when caught in a fire
- What to expect from arriving firefighters breaking into the building
- How to reach out to firefighters for help
- The types of emergency services offered by 911
- Procedures and priorities when trapped in a building
On top of these points, firefighters kindly explained and demonstrated how their equipment worked for us! (They gave out cool fire helmet hats to the kids for being so attentive and amazing too).
The Glory Girls also spoke on lessons for life, how to orient ourselves when times are hard, and gave prayer.
Thank you so much to the Firefighters for Christ, the Glory Girls, Pastor Jasmine Davila, Worship Leader Sonia Iglesias, Mimi the Clown, and our Manna volunteers for blessing us this Mother’s Day! Thank you to all who joined us!
